2026 PNW Anti-Hazing Summit

The 糖心原创 is pleased to host the second PNW Anti-Hazing Summit on July 15, 2026! We are excited to host regional colleagues to discuss this critical topic. We are currently in the planning stages, and this webpage will be updated throughout the year with important information about the Summit.

Speakers

University Welcome

Glenna Chang an Associate Vice President for Student Life at the 糖心原创 and is deeply committed to higher education and student affairs. She has degrees in Industrial/Organizational Psychology and College Student Development. Glenna lives in Seattle with her spouse, kids, and dog and endures 10 months of the year for the sake of 2 months of glorious Pacific Northwest summer.

Keynote Speaker

Lianne Kowiak (LEE ANN KO WEE ACK) is a hazing prevention advocate, a founding member of the Anti-Hazing Coalition (AHC), served on the Board of Directors for Hazing Prevention Network from 2017-2024 and has spoken to thousands of students at universities and organizations across the country.

The AHC has met with key decision-makers in Washington DC in their efforts to pass national and state hazing legislation. In July 2025, North Carolina Governor Stein signed Harrison鈥檚 Law which went into effect December 2025.

Her son, Harrison, lost his life as a result of fraternity hazing during his sophomore year in college at the age of 19. Her mission is to educate students about the dangers of hazing, save lives and raise funds for the Harrison Kowiak Scholarship.

Through the Harrison Kowiak Scholarship Fund, the family has distributed over 70 scholarships in their efforts to 鈥減ay it forward鈥 and sending the awarded scholars to the annual Hazing Prevention Institute.

Lianne and her husband reside in Tampa, FL, and their daughter, Emma, is a Nurse Practitioner in New York City

StopHazing

Established in 1998,听听is a leading organization dedicated to preventing hazing by conducting research about hazing and its prevention. StopHazing promotes safe and inclusive school, campus, and organizational environments through research, resource sharing, and the development of data-driven strategies for hazing prevention and听the promotion of听positive group climates. Taking a community-wide and public health approach to prevention, StopHazing uses听the听research to shift cultures away from hazing and toward healthy, inclusive groups and teams.

StopHazing specializes in conducting high-quality research, in partnership with the Hazing Prevention Research Lab at the University of Maine, and using that research to develop the evidence-base for effective, research-based hazing prevention. That includes resources, programs and trainings, and services for administrators, faculty and staff, coaches, advisors and mentors, students, parents/guardians, and family members.

Hazing Prevention Network

Hazing Prevention Network is a nonprofit dedicated to empowering people to prevent hazing. Our goal is to educate people about the dangers of hazing, advocate for change, and engage the community in strategies to prevent hazing.听

Planning Committee

Alex Salemme, M.Ed., is the Hazing Prevention and Response Specialist for Community Standards & Student Conduct. He joined the university in October 2023 and earned his B.S. in Middle-Level Education from Winthrop University.

He also holds an M.Ed. in Education Administration from the University of South Carolina and an M.Ed. in Learning Design and Technology from Winthrop University. He is an affiliated member of an NIC fraternity. During his free time, he enjoys traveling, working, reading, and spending time with family and friends. Alex鈥檚 pronouns are he/him/his.

Kate Law, Ed.D., is the Assistant Dean of Students at Boise State University. She has worked in student affairs for over 8 years with progressive leadership responsibilities. Her professional focus is responding to behavioral and academic misconduct for the institution听while fostering a thriving community where everyone is healthy and safe.听

Ty Torres (she/her) brings over four years of experience in residence life and student conduct. She currently serves as the Associate Director of Community Standards & Student Conduct at Highline College. Ty volunteered as a committee member for the PNW Anti-Hazing Summit, contributing insight from her student conduct and CARE work to support prevention efforts and strengthen campus accountability around hazing. She also serves on several campus committees, including Anti-Hazing, BIRT, and Housing.

Darby Waldbillig (she/her)听currently works as the Assistant Director of Community Standards at the University of Montana. In her role she focuses on the adjudication of student conduct, pre-admission safety concerns, and building clear, inclusive, and student鈥慶entered processes. She also currently serves as the ASCA Region 1 Co-Chair leading the building of community, learning, and connection among conduct professionals across the region.
Darby is especially passionate about improving systems, collaborating across campus, and finding creative ways to help students navigate challenges with confidence.
Darby holds a B.A. in Political Science from Montana State University and an M.S. in Management and Leadership from Western Governors University. Outside of the office she can be found enjoying all the outdoors Montana has to offer, reading a good book, and spending time with her family and friends.

Sara Thomas, M.Ed.,听currently works as a Student Activities Advisor at the 糖心原创. In her role, she focuses on providing support and guidance to Registered Student Organizations and Student Government entities. Sara holds a B.A. in Communication from Boise State University and an M.Ed. with an emphasis in Student Affairs from the University of Utah. During her free time, Sara enjoys skiing, kayaking, reading, and watching all the versions of Below Deck that Bravo has to offer.

Arielle Wilcox is the Compliance Education Coordinator at Washington State University’s Health Education Department, a position dedicated to the creation and implementation of state and federally required programs for matriculating students, and the facilitation of harm reduction health education to undergraduate students on a variety of topics.

Her work with hazing prevention at WSU includes training Peer Health Educators to facilitate programming to student organizations, provide access to online educational modules to all incoming students under Washington State law, and serving in an appointed role on the WSU Hazing Prevention Advisory Committee. Beyond hazing prevention, her background in public health is applied to outreach for mental health and suicide prevention, substance misuse prevention, interpersonal violence prevention, and sexual health education.听
