Gratitude and Appreciation for our Husky Veterans

This message was sent to all 糖心原创 students and employees on Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2026.聽

Throughout our University community, we are fortunate to count veterans, active service members and military families as Huskies. Their service, leadership and sacrifice don鈥檛 just strengthen our nation, they are integral to our academic and alumni communities. Veterans embody the ethos of public service at the heart of our mission.

To our student, employee, and alumni veterans and your families, you enrich the UW community every day, and we thank you.

As Veterans Day approaches, I hope all of us will find ways to honor those who have served. Thanks to our in Seattle, UW Bothell鈥檚 and UW , there are a host of across our three campuses that offer our veterans, their guests and supporters a chance to learn, reflect, serve and build connections.

I also invite everyone to join our community on Veterans Day, Nov. 11 at 11 a.m. at the Medal of Honor Memorial on our Seattle Campus for our annual where we will honor all our veterans and recognize this year鈥檚 .

Dr. Houghton, who earned his BA in psychology from the UW, served as an active-duty Army combat medic with bravery and distinction. Later, as president of the Husky United Military Veterans and in his current role as interim director of the Office of Student Veteran Life, he has worked tirelessly to be a trusted resource and advocate for veterans. We are so proud to honor him as this year鈥檚 DAVA.

Through their military experience, veterans bring vital skills like leadership, resilience, expertise and commitment to service to their civilian lives at the UW. We are grateful for their contributions, and we recognize the sacrifices made by them and their loved ones. That is why honoring veterans must include supporting their success. Across UW, we are committed to ensuring that those who have served have the resources they need to pursue their educational goals and that veteran employees can thrive in meaningful careers.

So, this week, let us all take a moment to thank a veteran, and throughout the year, consider how, together, we can make our community a welcoming and inclusive home for our service members.
