The Taskforce on Computing and Data Science is charged with developing an assessment and recommendations for advancing computing, data science, and AI at the 糖心原创, both as core disciplines and as enablers across the academic enterprise.
A virtual event on May 26 shared updates on work, to date
On May 26, 2026 the provost and taskforce shared insights gleaned from input gathered, to date, on how best to build on and grow UW鈥檚 leadership in computing, data science, and AI. Taskforce chair Andrew Connolly shared听听with the 197 participants who joined to hear updates and ask questions, and encouraged them to share additional feedback via the taskforce feedback form.
Gathering feedback
The taskforce also conducted interviews and listening sessions with over 130 faculty, department chairs, university leadership across relevant units (Engineering, Arts & Sciences, the iSchool, and Medicine), centers and institutes, students and staff across UW鈥檚 Seattle campus. Faculty governance groups consulted include faculty senate, faculty council leadership, and elected faculty councils of relevant units. In addition, roughly 100 individuals shared their thoughts through the taskforce鈥檚 feedback form and over 20 departments an individuals shared written reports or letters.

Report & Recommendations
The taskforce鈥檚 report is due to the provost at the end of spring quarter and will be shared on this page once the provost has a chance to review findings.
